Description

Mitchell Jayne and Dean Webb talk about when and where they were born. They then talk about their backgrounds in music and their lives before they joined The Dillards. Doug Dillard and Rodney Dillard then talk about when and where they were born, and talk about how their musical family influenced their love of Bluegrass music. Next, The Dillard brothers talk about the rough beginnings of their professional music careers. The group talks about moving to California and recording their first album. They also give several anecdotes about their time touring with other bands.

The Dillards talk about the first album they recorded with the help of audio engineer Peter Weston. The Dillards then discuss being embroiled in a copyright lawsuit over the song "Dueling Banjos," which was played in the movie Deliverance. The Dillards recall how a chance meeting with a rhythm and blues group inspired their hit song, "Dooley." Webb then talks about his songwriting. They also talk about about the various festivals at which they played.

Next, Mitchell Jayne talks about the toll that hearing loss took on his musical performance. As a result, Jayne began to focus on writing several books, which were inspired by the Bluegrass music he played. The Dillards and Dean Webb talk about the two instrumental records they recorded at this time as The Folk Swingers. The Dillards talk about their experimental album, Wheatstraw Suite. They then discuss the addition of Herb Pederson to the band. They also talk about recording follow-up albums, including Copperfields and Roots and Branches. The group also talks about touring with Elton John, as well as the film and television work in which they were involved. Finally, the group talks about the high points of their careers and their regrets.
