Description

Gary Ray Gayheart is a retired Master Distiller at Schenley Distillery (now called Buffalo Trace Distillery). In this interview he discusses his childhood and family history, as well as his education which led him to a career in distilleries. He talks about the places he worked and the distilleries' changes in ownership. He talks about being hired by Elmer T. Lee to work at what would become the Buffalo Trace Distillery. He discusses the duties of his job as Master Distiller, and describes about some of his former coworkers. He talks about events that have affected the distillery, including floods, changes in the workforce, and the development of the Blanton's brand of single barrel bourbons. He talks about how the market for bourbon has changed over the years.
