Description

Mary Beth Bingman begins by discussing her upbringing and the various places her family lived. She describes her relationship to the field of education and anti-stripmining efforts in Appalachia. She recounts her gradually increasing awareness of Appalshop, and her involvement with the organization in the context of education and her eventual employment in the "Appal core" (the organization's administrative office staff). She discusses some of the frustrations of working at Appalshop, while she ultimately celebrates the work of the organization.
