Josh Mers, once a candidate for the Kentucky House of Representatives in the 2018 Democratic Primary, shares his life journey navigating politics, fatherhood, and marriage as a gay man. Mers talks at length about his numerous political and activist efforts, including once working as chair of Lexington Fairness and working as the commissioner of the Lexington Human Rights Commission. Mers discusses going from being professionally closeted, particularly while he worked on high profile political campaigns, to his sexual identity becoming well known as an effect of his social justice work. Mers talks about how he met his husband and their experiences fostering to adopt children.
