Description
In this interview Jim Palmquist discusses his time in the Vietnam War. Palmquist was a volunteer and veteran of the US military during the Vietnam War and was with the military from 1968 till 1976. He worked with the Navy starting in 1968 flying helicopters in the Atlantic, Mediterranean, Caribbean and Arctic oceans aboard attack aircraft carriers. He was a part of the Helicopter Combat Support Squadron 2 HC-2 'Fleet Angels' and served in the Navy till 1973 as a Lieutenant and never saw combat. Palmquist got to travel across Europe with his wife and son, mostly to Greece, Italy and Spain while docked. He later served in the US Army New Jersey National Guard, as a weekend warrior, from 1974 to 1976 as a captain. After his military career he got an MA from Temple University , worked for Polaroid and lastly Air Products for twenty-five years before retiring in 2001. He has taught at several universities and worked with United Way until 2009 and the American Helicopter Museum in PA.
