David Weinberg, November 10, 2016
Title
David Weinberg, November 10, 2016
Description
In this interview, David Weinberg reflects on his involvement in Judaism and the Jewish community throughout his childhood, college years, and adult life. He begins by delving into his family’s background, explaining how his grandparents came to Kentucky and settled in Louisville, where he still lives today. He talks about his father’s role in the community as a kosher butcher, how that carried over into the home, and about his family’s involvement in their synagogue, Keneseth Israel. David discusses his participation at the Jewish Community Center growing up, from attending Hebrew school there to leading youth clubs and youth councils. As the narrative continues, Weinberg recalls times spent at the University of Kentucky, where he was a business student from 1964 to 1968. He talks about his efforts to keep kosher while living on his own; his involvement with Hillel, a Jewish campus organization; and his connections to other Jews living nearby during the time he was at U.K. Weinberg goes on to explain how he met his wife Beverly, his career with General Electric, and how he came to be the CFO of the Jewish Community Federation of Louisville (now the Jewish Community of Louisville). As the interview closes, interviewer Janice Crane asks Weinberg to consider his Jewish identity and its impact on his children’s and grandchildren’s faiths.
