Segment Synopsis: Michael Aldridge is introduced. He gives a brief overview of his life before discussing his childhood in Louisville and Shelbyville, Kentucky. He talks about his experiences in middle school, including participating in an informal drama group, the social groups in a small rural town, and taking advanced classes. He talks about his experiences in high school, including his friendships, interest in art, and how his life was changed by participating in the Governor's Scholars program which exposed him to new people and ideas.

Partial Transcript: And then that pledge night--um, so something kind of dramatic that kind of happened at that moment.

Segment Synopsis: Aldridge talks about the importance of Greek life at Centre College and how devastating it felt to be blackballed from the Greek system due to suspicion of him being gay. He talks about someone else being kicked out of a fraternity after coming out, as well as a professor who outed herself in class. He talks about how attitudes at Centre began to change, but it was still dangerous to come out there at that time.

Partial Transcript: Uh, when did you first apply the word 'gay' to yourself, even if it was just in your own thoughts?

Segment Synopsis: Aldridge talks about first using the label bisexual, then later coming out as gay. He talks about an internship in Minneapolis which led him to begin going to gay clubs and begin dating men. He talks about his relationships at that time. He tells the story of how his friends found out that he was gay after catching him with a guy he was dating. He talks about his friends' reactions.

He talks about his tenuous and sometimes traumatic relationship with his father, how it has waxed and waned over time, and their current relationship. He briefly talks about coming out to his sister.

Segment Synopsis: Aldridge talks about his career with the ACLU of Kentucky, first as a volunteer and then as the Finance Director during the 'No On the Amendment' Campaign. He talks about their fundraising efforts and their impact in working against the proposed amendment to make gay marriage illegal. He discusses how LGBTQ groups from across the state worked together on this issue, which both created relationships and caused issues for the individual groups. He talks about their feeling of success despite the amendment passing.

He talks about the campaign for fairness in Kentucky, including the organization's branding, goals, and the progress they have made. He speaks at length about the process of passing a non-discrimination ordinance, beginning with their first attempt in Richmond, then Berea, and finally their first success in Vicco, Kentucky. He talks about how this success led to the passing of other non-discrimination ordinances in Kentucky towns like Morehead, Frankfort, and others.
